Matthew 6:25-34
It’s pretty descriptive and self-revealing. But often times we need to be reminded of it. And, when we FOCUS on HIS word, WE shall be WORRY FREE
Let’s read and understand the gripping meaning of the passage.
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Let’s pause and meditate on what Jesus just said. He says that Life is more than food. You know when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, what did HE say to Satan? That, man shall not live by bread alone. Food is fuel for the body. Yes, we need it, but the life is in the Word of God.
Let’s read further. Jesus says :26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? Again, Jesus is emphasizing that we are valuable to him. He is reminding us that he is in control. We, by worrying, cannot even add a single hour to our life.
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble“
What is a Worry?
In simple terms, It’s basically a constant thought about something in our mind with negative impact.
From the day we are born in flesh and until the day our spirit ascends to heaven we would worry. That is given. There is no escape.
But the last verse of the passage tells us that there is no point in worrying because we do not know what the next moment holds.
How about our daily commute?
Driving and stressing over the traffic we have to conquer is like trying to use a spoon to dig a hole—absolutely pointless! Unless we magically time travel or pull off a daring detour, the traffic isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. So, why fret? At least we get an extra dose of quality time in our dream car! :)
In the scripture, we are reminded that we cannot let our mind to dwell on troubles of the day. We cannot let worry bring us down but let the Holy Spirit lift us up.
If we are walking in the dark, are we going to see anything? If we fall in a dark pit, can we get out of it until we look up to the light and start climbing?
When we are in a state of anxiety and dwell on our difficult troubles, when we start to lose the sight of the light but focus too much on negativity and darkness, that’s when we need to look up to God, to Light and start climbing up, start to feel the uplifting state.
Why and What do we Worry about?
- Oftentimes, we fail to recognize or appreciate the blessings we possess, regardless of their size.
- We mostly want to have bigger and better things in life.
- Once we achieve/acquire those, we start another worrisome journey to another big and better endeavor.
- We ponder the complexities of our existence and the implications it holds for our future, and how these factors shape our lives.
- It’s only natural to feel overwhelmed at times, as we navigate through tough days, conflicts, and various health issues. We often find ourselves worrying about our unmet needs, finances, our homes, our children, and the loved ones around us who may be facing difficulties. It’s important to remember that these feelings are valid, and we are not alone in our struggles.
But it’s also like a big dead rock that we constantly carry which weighs us down. It’s like a chain that pulls our spirit down. It keeps us in this empty pit where we are constantly thinking or battling about something or how to get out.
And, often times, we take the wrong turn by making bad choices and rely on materialistic things to ease our pain. But that is not the way. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and life”.

What can we do?
If there is a challenge we face, it’s important to acknowledge it and take meaningful steps towards resolution. However, amidst the ups and downs of life, we should strive not to let worry weigh us down or diminish our spirit. It’s essential to keep moving forward, even in tough times, and remember that we have the strength to rise above.
When God can give Sarah a son at the age of 90, do we really have to think twice or doubt what Lord says about worrying.? No. Not at all. We always need to be rejoicing in the Lord. Paul writes in Philippians 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
We should remind ourselves that we need to be joyful all the time and rejoicing in the Lord always. Let our request be made known to him by prayer. Then, there is a promise that the peace of God which is beyond all understanding will guard our hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.
Paul knew that the true joy comes from Jesus Christ who is guiding us to our happy life, happy eternal life.
We listen to people in our lives whom we trust so why would we not believe the one who created the heavens and the earth? The one who did many miracles, healed so many, he is the one who is saying don’t worry.
Being spiritually strong, having faith,
believing in God, realizing that we are made in HIS image.
He has melted and molded us and gave us a spirit
that wants to reach out to HIM to commune with HIM.
Things will happen in our life that would make us worry
but realizing and desiring peace every moment,
meditating on God’s word,
focusing on HIM can not only revive our life
but the life of others around us as well.
